Shamor V’zachor

Posted on June 25th, 2008.

Join Rabbi Sheila Weinberg as she discusses this commandment to both keep and remember the Sabbath - as a mindfulness practice.  To be mindful and remember - when we know we are not mindful, it is a moment of remembering.

Shamor V’zachor – to keep and remember.  Shamor – to guard, mind, keep, observe, be faithful, present, pay attention, set an intention, enter into a relationship, embrace a value, standard, practice.  It is a commitment to something greater than ourselves – an effort to align with the whole.

In life we become held captive by our habits, but it is when we become aware we are lost, know we have forgotten, and we remember – zachor – that we return again.  Shamor V’zachor – how do we stay mindful in the world we interact with on a daily basis?
